About Court of Honor -

Court of Honor (CoH) is a division III junior drum and bugle corps located in Atlanta, Georgia. Each fall, the corps auditions high school students (ages 14-19) for entry into its high-caliber field performance ensemble. By limiting participation to high school aged students, the experienced staff can focus on this age group's specific needs and talents, while at the same time avoiding college lifestyle distractions.

CoH operates a "targeted" summer tour that takes the corps on short trips to individual competitions and performances throughout the Southeast. This approach allows us to introduce the drum corps activity to young people for whom a "location to location to location" summer tour would be too time or cost intensive. Drum corps is challenging, competitive, and (most importantly) FUN for both the performer and audience member alike. Court of Honor's goal is to be that rare drum corps which is both competitive AND a blast to watch.

Instructional Philosophy -

The Instructional Philosophy of CoH can be summed up in three simple letters, E, E and E: ENTERTAINMENT, EXCELLENCE and EDUCATION.

Which of those three is the most important? That depends on the position from which you are viewing the corps.

If you are a fan, you go to a drum corps show to be entertained; therefore, ENTERTAINMENT is the most important part.

If you are a participant, you come to the corps to learn to be a better performer; therefore, EXCELLENCE is the most important part.

If you are a staff member, you are doing so because you are dedicated to teaching young adults how to improve as performers AND how to become positive, ethical adults; therefore, EDUCATION is the most important part.

Viewed from the different vantage points, each part takes on relative importance according to your own personal view. Viewed as a whole by an impartial observer, though, they are of equal importance, and form the foundation for our entire program.

Mission Statement (THIS is what we are all about) -

To provide a drum and bugle corps program that emphasizes character, social development, leadership, self-discipline, and the pursuit of excellence, in an environment that prepares young people to make ethical choices.

Treatment of Others -

Treating all people with respect and dignity is important to any organization, and Court of Honor is no exception. Every participant in Court of Honor - staff, volunteer, or performing member - should keep in mind that their actions directly and indirectly affect all other members of this organization, as well as the organization as a whole. With that in mind, it is important that all participants become aware of potential problems, specifically with regard to any form of discrimination or any behavior that could be construed as harassment, and report such behavior to a staff member as soon as possible

School Participation -

All participants should try to participate in the high school or middle school activity correlative to their activity in Court of Honor. Participation in Court of Honor should not be thought of as a substitute for participation in these programs.
