Court of Honor Announces Key New Post

Marc Kaufman, Executive Director of Court of Honor announced today a move that will "bring excellence to COH operations and pave the way for sustained growth." Mike Miller, who served as Brass Co-Caption Head in the corps' inaugural season, has accepted a newly created role as "Operations/Tour Manager". In this post, he will oversee the logistical and operational details of the drum corps, providing guidance to other individuals who will work in more specifically assigned roles in the new season. Kaufman commented, "Mike provided wonderful leadership for our organization this past season. His desire to become more involved with the operational details of the drum corps and our need for an experienced manager in that area were a perfect match. Mr. Miller was a marching member of the Spirit of Atlanta in 1991 and served as one of the road managers for Spirit from JSU in 2001 before joining the instructional staff of COH for the 2003 season. He currently is the Director of Bands at Arnall Middle School in Newnan, GA and serves as an Asst. Director at Northgate High School, also in Newnan.

Mr. Kaufman also confirmed that Alan Armstrong will return to the corps next season as the 'Program and Instructional Coordinator. "Alan will enter his third decade in the activity by returning to lead our Instructional process. With him heading up the instructional end of things and Mike taking over the supervision of the logistical details, we are putting together a team of people that can move this corps forward both now and in the future." Mr. Armstrong served as the Staff and Program Coordinator for COH in the inaugural season as well as a Brass Co-Caption Head and Brass Arranger. He is a former member of Spirit of Atlanta where he also served on staff for 14 years. He currently serves as the Director of Bands at Northgate High School in Newnan, GA after opening that school in 1996.

Armstrong commented "Mike and I are both excited about the possibilities for the corps in the coming year. I‚m ecstatic he's agreed to take on this role, and he's still promised to be around to help with brass when we need him. He migrated "unofficially" into this role in many ways to help Marc out this year and his accepting this job is just a logical progression of events after the 2003 season. The corps will be very positively impacted by his attention to detail on the logistical side."

Mr. Miller commented, "I'm enthusiastic about taking on this role and hope to provide the members with a drum corps experience they will remember for a lifetime."

Kaufman concluded "The staff is planning a "retreat weekend" where we will evaluate our inaugural season, continue to define our instructional philosophy, lay plans for the coming season, and finalize other details in preparation for 2004. Our members, parents and fans can expect some more exciting announcements once we finalize some agreements in the coming weeks".

Court of Honor is the only junior drum and bugle corps based in Georgia and will once again enter DCI Div II/III competition for the 2004 season.
